|Who Are We?
Melody Foster, Guru of Retail Stuff
Melody Foster is the Guru of Retail Stuff for The Cozy Home. Melody is passionate about people, and she transfers that passion into every aspect of her life. She wants The Cozy Home to be a welcoming shop with a focus on the guests who visit.
"We want each person who visits our store to enjoy their experience, have fun and to find pleasantly unexpected surprises. We have many guests that stop by three or four times a month just to chit chat, relax in the atmosphere, and see what's new."
Melody handles all the operational facets of the business, including the retail storefront, administration, financials, buying, sales, marketing and partnering relationships.
Gayle DeHaan, Head Master Designer Extraordinaire
Gayle DeHaan arrived on the doorstep of The Cozy Home partially by accident, but mostly by Kismet. Gayle was driving through Draper and saw Melody working on remodeling projects prior to opening. Gayle stopped and offered her talent in artistic faux painting in exchange for advertising.
As Gayle was painting, Melody discovered that Gayle actually had a four-year Interior Design education from BYU and was a career Designer. Gayle has been designing both residential and commercial projects for over 14 years. She was seeking a forum for her work that would allow her more freedom to translate her clients' visions into reality.
Gayle had a vision for bringing interior design within the reach of everyone, not just the affluent. This matched Melody's philosophy and values at The Cozy Home and the result is our "Everywoman's Interior Designer" philosophy.
Gayle heads up the entire Design Group for The Cozy Home and is responsible for the creative design for the clientele of The Cozy Home. Gayle is both a hands-on designer and hands-on manager. She handles each client as an individual throughout the design process, manages the work-in-progress phase and completes the job with installation and finishing touches. Gayle's clients particularly appreciate her talent for selecting colors, fabrics and styles that create "Wow!" appeal.
Jenekah Preece, Designer Extraordinaire
Jenekah's entre' into The Cozy Home was, once again, by the blessings of powers greater than us! Melody happened to be crossing the street just as an old friend from Davis County was driving by right in front of the store in Draper. Melody hadn't seen this friend for more than 2 years, so as they were catching up, it was mentioned that The Cozy Home was actively looking for new interior designers.
Low and behold, the friend actually knew someone who was an experience interior designer and also actively looking for a new employer.
Jenekah graduated from Weber State with a 4-year degree specializing in interior design. She interned with Shaw Industries in Georgia, who is the leading manufacturer of carpets in the US. She also has 5 years of combined experience in interior design and design merchandising. As an interior designer, Jenekah focused exclusively on residential design, helping her clients to create the look and feel they sought to achieve in their homes.
Jenekah is a strong addition to our design team, not only in the education and experience that she brings to the table, but also in her spirit and work ethic.
Jes Mackey, Wonder Woman
Kismet played the lead role once again in attracting Jes to the shop. Jes was one of the first outside vendors to sign on to do business through the consignment side of The Cozy Home. She was an early supporter and has added enormously to the growth the shop has experienced over during this first year.
Jes has always been a significant contributor with ideas that have made the store better and better. She has also been a stalwart contributor to the consignment inventory with high-quality products and the really great prices that The Cozy Home is known for.
Jes also follows her passion for bringing together people with the perfect products by working two days a week in the shop. Her knowledge about antiques and her ability to find just the right ones at the right price have been welcomed by our guests.
Liz Foster, Wonder Girl
Liz is Melody's oldest daughter at 17 years of age. She has been in it up to her neck since the beginning. Liz is a Senior at Alta High School with outstanding academic performance and a serious interest in everything social!
Liz works after school and Saturdays to welcome guests to The Cozy Home. She contributes to every operational aspect of making the shop run well day-to-day. She knows how things work inside the shop, and she is at her best when she is successful in helping our guests get exactly what they want from every visit to our shop.
Amanda Foster, Wonder Girl
Amanda is Melody's 16-year-old daughter. Amanda dove right into the workings of the store from the beginning. She is a Junior at Alta High School with exceptional academic performance and a strong Post position on the Alta Girls' Basketball Team.
Amanda works in the shop after school and Saturdays – except during Basketball season when training and practice take over everything.
Amanda really enjoys handling back office functions of the shop and working with guests who have special orders, needs and wants. She is in her glory when she finds that special something that a guest really wants.
Scott Kernan, Merchandising Wizard
Scott visited our store as a customer during its early days in 2002. He fell in love with what we are doing and told Melody right then and there that he would love to have any opportunity to work in the store that might become available.
In June, when Melody needed help with merchandising, she gave Scott a call. Scott jumped at the opportunity and has proven to be a valuable asset in keeping things running smoothly, the displays fresh and creative, and everything in its proper place.
Scott is a senior at Juan Diego and will be pursuing a 4-year degree in interior design. He currently has a strong interest in the Seattle Art Institute where he attended a summer workshop in July. The workshop was designed to help students understand a career in design, areas of specialty which could be pursued, and to orient them to the Institute's career education programs.
